In the second day of the Pacific Coast Classic, the Benedictine University volleyball team fell in four sets to Pomona-Pitzer College but defeated University of Redlands in three sets.
Against Pomona, despite out-hitting the opponent with 49 kills to 45, the Eagles fell in four sets (25-14, 22-25, 20-25, 16-25). Candice Cuppini led BenU with 16 kills and two solo blocks while Nicole Adams recorded 10 kills. Defensively, Haley Fitzgerald had 19 digs while Molly Kovacich had 15 and Jacki Kaluzny tallied 13.
In their first win of the season, Benedictine beat Redlands 25-20, 25-21 and an impressive 25-10 third set. Kovacich and Cuppini each had 11 kills while Abby Sattler had 26 assists, two aces and 13 digs.
The Eagles return home to compete in the Red and Black Triangular on Saturday, September 7 at Lake Forest College. Benedictine faces North Central College at 12:00 pm and Lake Forest at 2:00 pm.
