The Benedictine University volleyball team tallied 43 kills and nine team blocks to defeat Alverno College in three sets and move to 3-0 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference action.
The Eagles (6-8, 3-0 NACC) recorded 21 kills in the first set, including seven kills from
Candice Cuppini and six from
Nicole Adams to take the first set 25-16. In the second set, the Eagles went on a 12-5 run that saw kills from
Jacki Kaluzny and
Molly Kovacich. Benedictine held Alverno (7-6, 1-2 NACC) to a -.132 hitting percentage for the 25-15 win.
Brooke Bowman and Kaluzny combined for 3.5 total blocks during the third set to help hold Alverno to just two kills and securing the win, 25-10.
Cuppini led all players with 16 kills while Kovacich recorded nine kills. Kaluzny hit a .444 with five kills and just one error while Abby Sattler had 10 digs and 34 assists. Defensively, several newcomers saw playing time including
Caitlyn Martin who recorded four digs.
Breanna Hamerlinck had five digs while Kaluzny tallied eight.
Benedictine is back in action tomorrow, September 25, when they host Illinois Wesleyan University at 7:00 p.m. in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.
