Men's Basketball Shoots Past Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team opened a busy week with an 86-79 win over Rockford on the road Tuesday night.

Struggling from the field to open the contest, Benedictine found themselves trailing by seven late in the half. Michael Woolf opened a 15-2 run with a free throw and Jon Bock followed with a three-pointer as Benedictine went on to lead by six with 1:41 remaining thanks to a three-point play from Tim McGinty. The Eagles held a 34-30 lead at the break as Woolf hit a three right before the stoppage.

The second half saw Benedictine blistering from the field. The Eagles shot over 60 percent in the half but could not put the hosts away. McGinty knocked down a three with 13:05 left in the game to put Benedictine ahead 47-46, igniting a 9-0 run. Four consecutive points from Tyler Thurston capped the run, handing the Eagles a 55-47 lead with 11:39 left. Rockford was twice able to pull within a pair, but Benedictine knocked down shots immediately to deny the opportunities.

The contest featured three ties and eight lead changes. McGinty led three in double figures with 22 points while Woolf notched 13. John Dodson contributed 11.

Benedictine (6-9, 4-6) will host Dominican on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
