LISLE, Ill. - Meghan Novak dropped home a jumper with inside of 10 seconds left to push Benedictine past Aurora 64-62 on Tuesday night.
Benedictine controlled the first half. A layup from
Kam Haifleigh with 14:23 remaining in the first put Benedictine ahead 14-4. Aurora sliced the lead to three points with 8:19 to go in the half but six consecutive points opened on a
Sierra Dunner layup pushed the margin to nine. Benedictine led by 11 at the break, 33-22. The Eagles show 52 percent in the half while limiting the visitors to just over 25 percent.
After slowly chopping at the deficit, Aurora was able to tie the score with 11:02 left in the game. The Spartans went on to lead by as many as five points, taking the lead with 8:40 to play in the game. Aurora shot 63.6 percent in the second half of the contest. Benedictine did not lead again until Novak's jumper to win the game. Haifleigh hit a free throw with 1:17 to tie the score.
Novak finished with 16 points to lead Benedictine, knocking down three three-pointers.
Vincenza Ranallo added 13 points. Benedictine (7-9, 7-4) travels to Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday afternoon.
