The Benedictine University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Lakeland College on Saturday afternoon in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.
The Eagles (6-18, 4-3 NACC) led early in the first set but allowed Lakeland (10-14, 3-3 NACC) to score nine unanswered points. The Muskies kept up that momentum to take the first set 25-18.
Unforced BenU errors gave LC an early lead in the second set and would eventually go on a 4-0 run to take a 16-12 lead. The Eagles battled back to come within one, 22-23 on three
Kelcey Adams serves, but Lakeland would take the set 25-23.
Lakeland's offense caught fire in the third set, tallying 16 kills and just two errors to take a 14-6 lead. The Eagles could not catch up, falling 25-17.
Kara Epping led BenU with six kills and also tallied three block assists while
Emily Chitwood recorded 5. Defensively,
Abby Screnock led the team with 20 digs while
Andraia Leja and Adams had 13 and 12 digs, respectively.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, October 14 when they host Aurora University at 7:00 p.m. in the Rice Center.
