Men's Soccer Shuts Out Concordia Chicago

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's soccer team rebounded by shutting out Concordia Chicago 2-0 on Wednesday night.

Benedictine created plenty of chances but could not find the back of the net early in the contest. The ninth shot of the contest resulted in the first tally. Edgar Reyes lined up for a corner kick in the 34th minute, the third of the half. Nick Kapetanos collected a failed clear and poked home the first goal, his ninth of the season. Concordia Chicago responded with four unanswered attempts following the goal but could not put one past the Benedictine defense. Francisco Delgado had a late opportunity to add to the lead, but the visitors made another save.

The second half saw chance after chance for Benedictine early, but stout defense kept the score at 1-0. During the final eight minutes of the match, Steve Mack made save after save to keep Concordia Chicago off the board. Mack stopped three shots as Concordia Chicago notched four and logged three corner kicks. Delgado provided an insurance tally in the final minute, also taking advantage of a misplay in net.

"CUC is much improved from last season and is a legitimate contender for the conference tournament," said Head Coach Rich Nassif. "I felt that we came out a bit casual and let them dictate the tempo of the game. We know we need to step our game up early instead of adapting to the opponent during the match. It was not our best night, but to win 2-0 is certainly a good result in conference."

Benedictine held a 20-14 advantage in shots with nine on target. Kapetanos posted five with Jonny Lehman and Delgado tallying four each. Mack halted six shots in goal to log his fourth shutout of the year.

Benedictine (7-6-1, 6-1 NACC) travels to Lakeland on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
