AURORA, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's soccer team ended the regular season with a 2-2 draw at Aurora.
The opening 45 minutes of action saw both teams feeling each other out, producing just five combined shots.
Ante Markotic created the first Benedictine chance in the 16th minute, firing off target. Markotic also recorded the final shot of the half in the 38th minute.
Steve Mack stopped the first attempt of the second half, but Aurora opened the scoring late in the 52nd minute. Benedictine responded with a flurry, tying the game on the third consecutive shot.
Nick Kapetanos added to his conference leading total with his 17th finder of the year on a feed from
Alexis Gutierrez. Markotic handed Benedictine the lead in the 69th minute on a Kapetanos helper. Aurora quickly answered to force the extra session, tallying the equalizer in the 70th minute. Benedictine posted four straight shots late, but could not find the back of the net.
Both teams had chances in the extra sessions. Markotic saw back-to-back shots blocked in the final minute of the first overtime. Mack recorded three saves in the extra 20 minutes.
The Eagles held a 16-12 advantage in shots for the contest. Markotic tallied seven with
Edgar Reyes collecting four. Mack made four saves in net.
Benedictine (10-6-2, 8-1-1) opens the NACC Tournament at home on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. as the third seed against sixth-seeded Edgewood.
