Football Set to Take on Concordia-Wisconsin

One of the toughest tests of the season awaits the Benedictine University football team, as on Saturday, the team travels to Mequon, Wisconsin to take on reigning Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Champion Concordia University Wisconsin. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.

Benedictine (3-4, 2-1) is coming off of an impressive 44-11 NACC victory over Concordia University Chicago. In BenU's second straight conference win, the Eagles defense held the Cougars just 100 yards of total offense, the fewest amount of yards an Eagles defense has allowed since surrendering just 77 against Maranatha Baptist University in 2011. BenU also sacked the quarterback six times. Jarrett Lecas increased his NACC lead in tackles with 11 more, while adding his fifth interception of the season (which was returned for a touchdown) to tie for the conference lead.

On offense, the Eagles totaled 356 yards. Artie Monaco found the end zone twice (once rushing, once receiving), rushing for 70 yards and added 69 receiving yards. Ryan Keener had his best statistical game of the season at quarterback, completing 16 of 21 passes for four touchdowns and an interception. Jake Valas caught nine passes for 83 yards and a touchdown, while Greg German scored twice on three catches (56 yards).

Concordia-Wisconsin (5-2, 3-0) has been one of the NACC's top teams over the past few seasons and boasts the conference's top offense, leading the NACC in passing offense (2,475), rushing offense (1,405), total offense (3,880), and yards per game (554.3) by a wide margin. Quarterback Austin Damaschke (367.8 passing yards per game, 62% completion rate, 450 rushing yards, 25 total touchdowns) and wide receiver Garrett Wenzelburger (61 receptions, 1,001 yards, nine touchdowns) form the conference's top pass-and-catch duo. However, CUW also possesses the conference's last-ranked defense, allowing 503.9 yards per game.

The Eagles and Falcons have played some close games in recent seasons. Last year, the Falcons won a 28-27 thriller, scoring on a two yard run with 1:03 left to take the lead. Two years ago, the teams played a low-scoring affair as the Falcons shutout BenU 6-0. The last BenU victory came back in 2011, as the Eagles defeated the Falcons 20-14 on the road and ran for over 200 yards.

Concordia-Wisconsin will provide live statistics and live video for Saturday's contest.
