EAGLE CLASSIC TOURNAMENT PAGEThe Benedictine University women's volleyball team hosted the first day of the annual Eagle Classic on Friday, October 31. The Eagles fell to nationally ranked Carthage College and Elmhurst College in straight sets.
In the first match, No. 17 Carthage (28-3) hit .306 with a total of 38 kills to defeat Benedictine (8-21) in straight sets (25-7, 25-10, 25-10).
Emily Chitwood led BenU with five kills while
Kara Epping had four kills and three block assists.
Abby Screnock tallied 10 assists and 10 digs for the double-double and
Andraia Leja had 12 digs.
The Eagles competed well against No. 16 Elmhurst. In the first set, BenU tallied 11 kills with only three errors but fell 25-19. Elmhurst took an early lead in the next two sets to win 25-18 and 25-14.
"I feel like we really bounced back after our Carthage match," said head coach
Jennifer Wildes. "We did some nice things on the court and never stopped fighting. The girls played really well as a team."
Chitwood led the offense with seven kills while
Ashley Karsten tallied six. Defensively, Leja led BenU with 11 digs while
Caitlyn Martin recorded seven and
Vanessa Possidoni had five digs and two aces.
Benedictine is back in action in the second day of the Eagle Classic tomorrow morning when they host North Central College at 12:00 p.m. then Bluffton University at 4:00 p.m.
