LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team capped the non-conference portion of the season by totaling a season high for points in a 108-74 loss to North Central on Wednesday night.
DeKayla Crayton scored the opening basket of the game, but North Central ripped off 17 consecutive points to take command. Benedictine did not lead the remainder of the contest. North Central utilizes an up tempo system, made famous by the Grinnell College men. The Cardinals went on to lead by as many as 36 points in the opening 20 minutes of play. The score at halftime was 60-30 as North Central knocked down 14 threes.
Benedictine slowed down North Central a bit in the second half. A 10-3 run pulled Benedictine within 68-45 following a layup from
Nicole Botich. North Central quickly responded with 11 consecutive points to again lead by 34. The advantage reached 41 points in the contest.
Benedictine held a 52-39 edge on the glass and dished out 21 assists, finishing the game shooting 46.9 percent. Botich logged a double-double with a game high 20 points and 10 boards.
Meghan Novak notched 11 assists and scored nine points. Crayton finished with 13 points while
Vincenza Ranallo added 10 points.
Benedictine (0-5) returns to the floor on Saturday afternoon by opening conference play against Edgewood at 2:00 p.m.
