LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team led virtually wire-to-wire in rolling to a fourth consecutive victory, taking down Lakeland 68-39 at home on Saturday night.
Trailing 5-4, Benedictine rolled off six consecutive points to grab a 10-5 lead.
Meghan Novak finished the run with a three-pointer at the 14:42 mark. Lakeland quickly responded with a bucket before Benedictine notched seven straight to move ahead by double figures.
Vincenza Ranallo capped the stretch with a jumper at the 10:59 mark. Leading 17-9, the Eagles posted 15-1 run to take control. Novak nailed a jumper to make the score 32-10 with 3:56 left in the opening half. Benedictine shot nearly 54 percent in the opening 20 minutes while limiting Lakeland to just five field goals. The Eagles held a 36-17 edge at the break.
Lakeland scored the first points of the second half but could pull no closer than 17 the rest of the way. Benedictine led by as many as 30 points in the second half, shooting 50 percent from the field. For the contest, the Eagles shot 51.8 percent, just below the season high total from last Saturday's win over Concordia Wisconsin.
Novak led all scorers with 17 points, knocking down eight shots.
Nicole Botich contributed 11 to go with eight rebounds. Benedictine held a 41-28 edge on the glass, pulling away in the second half.
Benedictine (4-5, 4-0 NACC) returns to the floor on Tuesday night at Concordia Chicago.
