Men's Hoops Rolls Into Conference Tourney

Box Score

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team clinched a slot in the NACC Tournament with an 83-59 rout of Dominican on the road Tuesday night.

A highly competitive first half of play featured eight ties and eight lead changes. Neither team led by more than three points in the first 12 minutes of the half. Trailing 27-25, Benedictine rattled off 13 consecutive points to open a double-digit lead. Jon Bock knocked down a three to put Benedictine ahead at 29-27. Two free throws from Michael Blaszczyk finished the run. Benedictine led by eight at the break, 41-33.

Dominican could get no closer than the halftime margin in the second. Benedictine shot 50 percent from the field in the second and pulled away with a 10-0 run midway through the second. Xavier Myers dropped home a layup to make the score 66-41 with 9:28 to play.

"It's always good to win on the road," head coach Keith Bunkenburg said. "We received a lot of contributions, shot the ball well, and attacked the glass. It was a very good bounce back game from the MSOE loss on Saturday."

Tim McGinty led the offense with 16 points. Michael Woolf notched 15 with Tyler Thurston registering 12. Blaszczyk tallied nine points to go with 10 rebounds. Benedictine held a 44-27 edge on the glass and collected 29 second chance points.

Benedictine (11-11, 9-8) hosts Edgewood on Thursday in a makeup contest.
