LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team knocked down 12 threes and never trailed in a 97-85 win over Lakeland College on Saturday afternoon.
Michael Blaszczyk set the tone on the first possession of the game by connecting on a three-pointer. Blaszczyk was a perfect 6-for-6 from three-point range in the half. Blaszczyk hit consecutive treys with less than eight minutes remaining to stretch the lead to 41-27.
Jon Bock completed a three-point play with 6:11 left in the half to extend the lead to 48-29. Lakeland sliced into the lead, trailing 52-40 at the half. Benedictine shot 66.7 percent in the opening 20 minutes.
The second half saw Benedictine maintain the advantage. Lakeland cut the deficit to 10 points twice in the final three minutes but could pull no closer.
Blaszczyk finished with a career best 28 points, hitting seven threes.
John Dodson added 15 points to go with five assists.
Michael Woolf tallied 14 while
Tim McGinty scored nine points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Benedictine finished the game shooting 57.7 percent.
Benedictine (13-11, 11-8) hosts Rockford in the regular season finale on Wednesday.
