Women's Basketball Holds Off Lakeland

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team shot over 50 percent in the second half to take down Lakeland College 64-54 on Saturday.

Lakeland scored the first eight points of the contest. Benedictine did not score until Briana Hamilton converted on a layup almost six minutes into the contest. Benedictine trailed by as many as 12 points (21-9) in the half but scored the final 12 points of the frame to pull even at 21-21. Alanna Ferry opened the 12-0 run with a triple and capped the rally with jumper at the buzzer of the half.

The run continued at the start of the second as Benedictine scored the first nine points to open a 30-21 advantage with 18:01 left in the game. Lakeland battled back, taking a 37-35 lead on a three at the midpoint of the half. Benedictine scored four straight with the contest even at 40-40 to lead with 5:23 to play. The Eagles continued, stretching the advantage to 13 in the closing moments of the contest. Benedictine shot 59.1 percent in the second half.

Four players scored in double figures for Benedictine. Ferry led the way with a game best 18. Vincenza Ranallo added 14 with Hamilton tallying 11 off the bench and Meghan Novak notching 10. The Eagles held a 38-24 edge on the glass.

Benedictine (11-12, 11-7) hosts Edgewood on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in a makeup game.
