LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team was unable to make it a weekend sweep, falling 57-47 to Edgewood College in a makeup game on Sunday afternoon.

Playing for the second time in less than 24 hours, Benedictine scored the first four points of the contest on baskets from Nicole Botich and Meghan Novak. Edgewood responded by rattling off seven consecutive points. Benedictine did not make a field goal during a 10-minute stretch but still trailed by only three points. The visitors extended the lead to double figures at 21-11 with 3:04 left in the half and held a 24-18 lead at the break. Benedictine shot only 28 percent in the opening half.

Benedictine pulled within five points on a layup from Michelle Gaede with 16:51 remaining but Edgewood embarked on a 12-2 run to open a 43-28 edge with 12:25 to play. Benedictine was able to pull within six points on a Botich layup with 3:13 to go but could not hit a key shot to pull any closer.

Botich was the lone player to reach double figures, finishing with 10 to go with nine rebounds. Kam Haifleigh added eight points. Three players totaled six. Benedictine finished the game shooting at 30.9 percent and held a 40-37 edge on the glass. The defeat means Benedictine can finish as no better than fifth seed in the conference tournament, meaning a road game to open next weekend.

Benedictine (11-13, 11-8) wraps up the regular season against Rockford at home on Tuesday night.
