LISLE, Ill. - Four players scored in double figures as the Benedictine University men's basketball team closed out the regular season with an 86-62 win over Rockford University on Wednesday night.
Rockford opened the game with a three-pointer and did not score again for over five minutes as the visitors never led again.
Michael Woolf evened the game with a three-point play, and a layup from
Tim McGinty put Benedictine ahead for good. Benedictine scored nine straight points to open a 24-12 lead with 9:10 remaining in the half. Two free throws from
Kane Steger capped the run. The Eagles closed the half with a 14-4 run to lead 48-21 at the break. McGinty put the exclamation mark on the flurry with a three. Benedictine shot 54.8 percent in the opening 20 minutes. Rockford could pull no closer than 18 points the remainder of the contest.
Woolf led the four in double figures with a game best 20.
Michael Blaszczyk netted 17 with McGinty adding a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards.
Tim Reamer tallied 10 off the bench.
Benedictine (14-11, 12-8) will open the conference tournament as the fifth seed on the road at fourth-seeded Aurora on Saturday night.
