AURORA, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team suffered a 62-56 season ending loss to Aurora University in the opening round of the NACC Tournament.
A three-pointer from
Xavier Myers handed Benedictine a 14-13 lead with 11:01 to play in the opening half. Aurora scored nine consecutive points to move ahead 22-14 and led 30-22 at the half.
Tyler Thurston converted a layup with 18:06 left in the second to bring Benedictine within three points at 31-28. Aurora was able to build a double-digit lead at 47-33 with an 8-0 run just before the midpoint of the half. Consecutive baskets from
Tim McGinty allowed the Eagles to pull within five points. Benedictine continued to rally, evening the game at 55-55 with a basket from
Kane Steger with 5:27 to play. Benedictine made just one field goal the rest of the game as Aurora was able to break free for the win.
Myers came off the bench to lead all scorers with 14 points, knocking down four threes. McGinty added 12 points and seven rebounds. Aurora held a 44-35 edge on the glass.
Benedictine concludes the season with a 14-12 record. The loss halted a four-game win streak. Aurora has ended the season for Benedictine in each of the past two conference tourneys.
