Men's Hoops Claims Third Straight

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team reached the .500 mark for the first time this season with a 79-69 win over Aurora on Wednesday night.

Benedictine found themselves down 18-11 with 12:34 to play in the first half but used a 7-0 run to even the game. Xavier Myers tied the score with a transition basket. Aurora continued to lead in the frame until Benedictine scored five straight late. John Dodson buried a three with 2:18 remaining to put the Eagles ahead 33-32. Benedictine led 36-34 at the break following a Kane Steger trey with :50 left.

Benedictine opened the second half with a flurry, jumping ahead by seven on a quick three from Michael Blaszczyk. The lead reached eight before Aurora was able to battle to within three. The lead reached as many as 13 points on another Blaszczyk three with less than five minutes to play. Aurora clawed within seven late but could pull no closer as Benedictine did not trail in the second.

Blaszczyk finished with 22 points, hitting five threes. Tim McGinty and John Dodson picked up 13 apiece with Michael Woolf adding 12. McGinty nabbed 11 rebounds. Benedictine held a commanding 43-29 edge on the glass, collecting 15 on the offensive end which led to 22 second chance points.

Benedictine (10-10, 8-7) travels to MSOE on Saturday.
