The Benedictine University women's volleyball team has just one match on the schedule this week: the 2014 home opener. BenU will host Wheaton College at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.
Benedictine has played its first ten contests on the road or at a neutral site, and Thursday's match is the only home match on the September schedule. The Eagles are 2-8 on the year, recording two 3-0 victories. BenU defeated Knox College at the Augustana College Viking Classic on August 29, as well as Blackburn College at the Illinois Wesleyan Barker Chevrolet Classic on September 6.
Wheaton is off to a 2-6 start after finishing 24-12 a season ago. The Thunder began the season by going 1-3 at the Pacific Coast Classic in Claremont, California, with the win coming against Chapman University. Benedictine competed in the same tournament last season, going 1-3 as well.
The Thunder also competed in the Washington University Asics Invitational in St. Louis, Missouri over the weekend, dropping all three contests. On Tuesday night, Wheaton defeated Lake Forest 3-1 at home.
Benedictine and Wheaton have met five times over the last six seasons. The Thunder have taken the last four matchups, with Benedictine's last victory coming 3-1 back in 2008. Last season, the Eagles fell 3-1 on the road to the Thunder despite 13 kills from
Candice Cuppini. In two career matchups against Wheaton,
Abby Screnock has 62 assists.
