NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's soccer team scored a 3-2 overtime win over Monmouth College in the North Central College Sal Vaccaro Tournament to win for the first time this season.
Benedictine fell behind 1-0 on a goal in the 21st minute. Less than two minutes later, the Eagles responded to even the game.
Danielle Melotte struck for her second goal of the year on a corner kick from
Danielle Rohling. Almost four minutes exactly following the Melotte goal, Benedictine took the lead.
Rachael Hodison found the back of the net in the 27th minute to cap a frantic six minute segment. Monmouth tied the score early in the second half, sending the game to overtime.
Taylor Pokorny struck in the sixth extra minute with an unassisted tally to win the game.
Benedictine scored three goals on just nine shots, overcoming a 11-9 deficit. Melotte and
Tara Tarazoff posted three each.
Maddie Frye played the whole game in goal, making a pair of saves.
Benedictine (1-5) plays Oberlin College on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. to complete play at the two-day event.
