Football Ready for Homecoming Matchup

LIVE VIDEO, AUDIO & STATS | GAMEDAY CENTRAL

After falling to Carroll University on the road last week, the Benedictine University football team return to the Village of Lisle/Benedictine University Sports Complex on Saturday night for Homecoming. The Eagles will play host to the Bulldogs on Adrian College at 6:30 p.m.

Despite being narrowly outgained in total offense thus far (676-641), BenU is off to a 0-2 start this season, falling to Carroll last Saturday and Central College to open the season on September 6. Through the two contests, safety Jarrett Lecas is tied for the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference lead in tackles with 24, while running back Anthony Mitchell ranks fourth in rushing yards with 106. In addition, wide receiver Greg German is tied for fourth in receptions (11) and ranks fifth in receiving yards (165).

Adrian College, members of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, has had a strong start to the season. The Bulldogs come into the matchup with a 2-0 record, outscoring opponents 75-27 through eight quarters. Adrian is the only MIAA team who has yet to suffer a loss this season.

The Bulldogs have used a balanced offense to generate the 75 points, passing for 473 yards while rushing for 382. In last week's win over Carthage, Adrian accumulated 302 yards on the ground on 54 rushing attempts. The team also ran a total of 83 plays with over 37 minutes of possession, passing for 208 yards as well.

Saturday's game is a part of the annual MIAA/NACC Challenge series, as NACC schools will each host a different MIAA school this weekend. Benedictine is 0-2 all-time against the Bulldogs, but has had some success against MIAA schools in recent seasons. The Eagles have won matchups against the MIAA the past two seasons, winning close contests on the road against Kalamazoo and at home against Albion on Homecoming in 2012.

In addition, the Eagles have also enjoyed much success on Homecoming in recent seasons. Benedictine has taken each of the past three homecoming matchups, defeated Aurora in 2011, Albion in a thrilling 32-28 come-from-behind victory in 2012, and Aurora again by ten points last season.

Football is just one event that will take place at the Sports Complex on Saturday, as both the women's and men's soccer teams will also host games at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Live audio, video, and stats for all Saturday events will be available HERE
