This week, the Benedictine University men's soccer team looks build off its successful start to the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference season. Benedictine will travel to Rockford University for a late afternoon match on Wednesday and host Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday night.
Benedictine is off to a 3-0 start in NACC play, as the team is currently tied for first place with Milwaukee School of Engineering. Outscoring conference foes 8-2, the Eagles have defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College and Dominican University at home, as well as Edgewood College on the road. Against Dominican, the Eagles defeated the Stars for the second straight season, giving the River Forest school its only two losses in NACC play since the conference was formed in 2006.
Wednesday: at Rockford (1-8-1, 0-3), 4:00 p.m.
Benedictine will head north for the season's fourth NACC contest on Wednesday to face Rockford. The Regents will come into Wednesday's matchup after defeating MacMurray College on September 13. In conference play, the Regents lost to Lakeland College and Milwaukee School of Engineering 3-0, as well as to Wisconsin Lutheran 8-1.
The Eagles and Regents have met each season since 2008, with Benedictine taking all six matchups in that span. In the six victories, the Eagles have outscored Rockford 22-1, with Rockford's one goal coming in 5-1 Eagles win in 2012. Last season, the Eagles won 7-0, with seven different players scoring for BenU.
Saturday: vs. Concordia-Wisconsin (3-7, 1-1), 6:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the Eagles will host a Concordia-Wisconsin team that's never missed the NACC Tournament. This season, the Falcons are off to a bit of a slow start, currently holding a 3-7 record. In NACC play, the Falcons defeated Lakleland 3-1 and fell to Dominican 2-1 in overtime.
Since the NACC was formed in 2006, Concordia-Wisconsin holds a 5-2-1 advantage in the series against Benedictine. Last season, the Eagles defeated the Falcons 3-2 on the road behind two goals from
Edgar Reyes, as well as a goal and an assists from
Anes Kadiric. It was Benedictine's first win in the matchup since a 2-1 victory in 2006.
