Box Score Down two sets, the Benedictine University women's volleyball team came from behind to defeat Alverno College 3-2 to take a 3-0 stance in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The win marked head coach 
Jennifer Wildes 200th of her career.
The win improved Benedictine's conference record to 3-0 and 5-15 overall while Alverno moved to 9-10 on the season and 0-3 in the NACC.
The first set saw both teams trade points throughout the game but it was Alverno who came out on top 25-22. The Eagles took an early 6-1 lead in the second set including two kills from 
Emily Chitwood and an 
Andraia Leja ace. The Inferno rallied back with three aces to take a 13-11 lead. The Benedictine offense made several crucial attack errors to give AC the 25-20 win.
Down 2-0, the Eagles took an early 12-4 lead and never looked back, beating Alverno 25-14 in the third set.
With the match on the line, BenU took a 6-2 lead but saw Alverno climb back and come within a point, 10-9. Aces from 
Molly Morley and kills from 
Erin Wiegand pulled BenU to a 16-10 lead. After trading points, the Eagles saw themselves with the 23-18 lead before AC scored the next four points. An Alverno service error and an ace from Leja gave the Eagles the 25-23 win to force a fifth set.
Alverno's early 3-0 lead in the final set was ended with an 
Ashley Karsten kill. With the set tied at 10-all, the offense for both teams came alive and it was the Eagles that came out on top when Chitwood secured the 15-13 win with a kill to end the match.
Chitwood led all players with 16 kills while 
Erin Wiegand recorded 11 kills. 
Keriann Groen recorded eight kills and three block assists while 
Abby Screnock led the team with 40 assists, five aces and also tallied 14 digs.
Leja led the defense with 25 digs and two aces and Morley had eight digs and three aces.
As a team, BenU recorded 53 kills, 69 digs, 13 aces and six blocks.
"I am extremely proud of my girls tonight," said Wildes. "We battled through a lot tonight and never stopped fighting. We played as hard as we could."
The Eagles are back in action this Friday when they host Milwaukee School of Engineering at 7:00 pm in the Rice Center.
