FOND du LAC, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's basketball team used a strong second half to upend Marian on the road 74-62 and sweep the season series.
Benedictine opened the contest strong, grabbing a lead of 11-2 when
Tim McGinty made a jumper with 14:37 left in the first. Trailing 16-9, Marian used a 13-0 run over four minutes to open a 22-16 lead with five minutes remaining. The Eagles tallied six consecutive points to even the contest on a layup from
Adam Reynolds with 2:40 to go. Marian held a 24-22 lead at the intermission as both teams failed to reach 40 percent shooting.
Kevin Rollins opened the second half by promptly tying the game. McGinty buried a three-pointer 17:34 to play, putting Benedictine ahead 31-28. The Eagles did not trail the remainder of the afternoon. Holding a 44-41 lead with 9:27 remaining, Benedictine rattled off eight unanswered points to notch a double-digit lead at 52-41.
John Dodson commenced the run. The Eagles went on to lead by as many as 14 points on two occasions to help finish off the victory. Benedictine shot 61.9 percent from the floor in the second.
All five starters reached double figures in the win. Reynolds paced the Eagles with 15, adding nine rebounds. McGinty notched 14 points with Dodson and Rollins collecting 13 apiece.
Tahron Harvey finished with 12. The contest featured four ties and three lead changes.
Benedictine (11-6, 9-3 NACC) hosts Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday afternoon.
