BenU Falls to Edgewood

LISLE, Ill. - On Homecoming Saturday, the Benedictine University women's volleyball team took undefeated Edgewood College to five sets in the Dan and Ada Rice Center. Benedictine would fall 15-6 in the final set.

Benedictine 2, Edgewood 3 (16-25, 27-25, 25-15, 20-25, 6-15)

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine trailed early in the first set. Down 20-16 they allowed Edgewood to score five straight
• The second set saw 11 ties as both teams battled back and forth. A Kelcey Adams ace would give BenU the 25-24 advantage but Edgewood would tie it with a kill. Two straight EC errors allowed BenU to win 27-25
• Benedictine tallied six kills and forced EC to hit -.192 in the third set en route to a 25-15 win
• Sixteen ties and 11 lead changes made up the fourth set as both teams were determined to win. A Keriann Groen kill tied the game at 20 but Edgewood would score five straight for the win
• Benedictine went up 2-0 in the fifth set on an Ashley Karsten kill but Edgewood scored two straight of their own. Edgewood tallied seven kills while BenU only had three for the 15-6 win
• Edgewood is one of only two teams left in the NACC that remain undefeated

STAT LEADERS
• Erin Wiegand led BenU with 12 kills
• Benedictine recorded seven team blocks including five from both Kara Epping and Karsten
• Groen and Epping had six kills
• Kristina Billie led the team with 26 digs and three aces
• Kelcey Adams had 29 assists and 16 digs
• Rounding out the players in double-figure digs was Caitlyn Martin (10)

FROM THE COACH
"It was a tough one for us today," said head coach Jennifer Wildes. "We came close to pulling it out but couldn't quite finish set four. We are looking to build on this weekend and keep getting better."

UP NEXT
The Eagles, now 9-14 and 4-4 in the NACC, will celebrate senior night on Tuesday, October 20 when they host Concordia University-Chicago at 7:00 p.m. in the Rice Center.
