Football Shuts Down Concordia Chicago

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Benedictine University football team improved to 3-0 in the conference with a 41-0 shutout of Concordia University Chicago.

A big first quarter sent Benedictine off and running. Niko Paaloalo forced a fumble on the first Concordia Chicago possession that was recovered by Joe Dickert inside the five yardline. Joshua Williams plunged in from a yard away to make the score 7-0 with 13:21 to play in the opening quarter. Jarrett Lecas returned an interception 31 yards on the ensuing drive, setting up Benedictine again deep in Concordia Chicago territory. Two plays later Jake Valas extended the lead to 14-0 by grabbing a five-yard pass from Ryan Sample at the 11:46 mark.

Following a three-and-out, the first sustained drive of the afternoon produced a touchdown. Derrick Miles capped a 10-play drive with a one-yard run, extending the lead to 21-0 with 5:02 left in the first. Valas caught another touchdown late in the first half to make the score 28-0. A 13-play drive to begin the second half made the score 35-0 when Luke Ludolph caught a pass from Sample.

The defense limited Concordia Chicago to just 195 total yards in the shutout. Benedictine forced three turnovers in the win. Paaloalo and Lecas led the defense with seven tackles each. Lecas intercepted a pair of passes and now leads the conference with four picks on the year. Dickert recorded 1.5 sacks with a recovered fumble.

Benedictine held the ball for 38:23 of the game, rolling up 436 yards of offense with 240 on the ground. The Eagles punted just once Sample threw for 180 yards and four touchdowns, completing 17 passes. Williams gained a career high 100 yards on 20 carries. Miles added 79 yards on 18 attempts. Valas caught five passes for 60 yards with two touchdowns.
