Volleyball Picks Up Third NACC Win

LISLE, Ill. - After a sweep of Rockford University on Friday night, the Benedictine University women's volleyball team won their third Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest on Saturday afternoon with a three-set sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran College.

Benedictine 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 0 (25-17, 25-22, 27-25)

THE DETAILS
• The Eagles trailed early in the first set but came back to tie it at seven on a Caitlyn Martin serve. The Eagles cruised to a 25-17 win tallying 11 kills, four from Beckie Whitmarsh.
• After trading points in the second set, several Wisconsin Lutheran (7-13, 1-4 NACC) errors gave BenU a 16-12 lead. The Warriors hung on but two Erin Wiegand kills secured the win for BenU, 25-22.
• Despite an early BenU lead, the WLC offense came alive, tallying 15 kills including two from Andrea Hafemeister to take a 19-16 lead. Down 23-19 the Eagles rallied and went on an 8-2 run that was capped with a Keriann Groen kill.
• The Eagles are now 3-1 in conference play with wins over WLC, Rockford and Alverno. Their only loss so far was in a five-set thriller against Dominican earlier in the week.

STAT LEADERS
• Groen and Whitmarsh both tallied eight kills
• Ashley Karsten had four kills and zero hitting errors with two block assists, including one in the third set during the Eagles 8-2 run
• Kelcey Adams had 27 assists and 18 digs
• Kristina Billie led BenU defensively, recording 25 digs
• Vanessa Possidoni rounded out the stat leaders with 15 digs

FROM THE COACH
"We were down in the third set and I am so proud of my girls for never giving up," said head coach Jennifer Wildes. "We really battled in that final set. I would say that we definitely had a good weekend overall."

UP NEXT
• The Eagles, now 8-11 overall and 3-1 in conference, take the week off of NACC action but travel to Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday, October 10 for a 1:00 p.m. contest
