Women's Hoops Slashes Past Saint Mary's

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University women's basketball team pushed out a fifth consecutive victory by besting Saint Mary's College 48-36.

THE DETAILS
•
The opening quarter was even prior to a 7-0 Benedictine run started on a layup from DeKayla Crayton with 3:32 left in the quarter
• Payton Sims drained the only three-pointer of the entire contest with 1:56 remaining to cap the run and make the score 15-8
• Benedictine led 17-10 after the first quarter
• Georgia Alexakos scored on a jumper at the start of the second to push the lead to 19-10
• Two free throws from Alanna Ferry in the closing moments stretched the lead to 11 at 30-19
• Benedictine scored the final nine points of the third quarter to open a 41-23 lead on a jumper from Jasma Williams
• The run extended to 13-0 with the opening four points of the fourth quarter on baskets from Nicole Botich and Alena Moro
• Saint Mary's made a push in the fourth but could pull no closer than 12 points

"Our depth helped us overcome an off-night shooting the ball," head coach Charlie Averkamp said. "We did a nice job defending and received some great contributions from Casey (Williams) and Georgia (Alexakos) to collect another team win."

Benedictine finished the game shooting 36.2 percent from the field but limited Saint Mary's to just 24.6 percent
• Benedictine made just one three-pointer on 14 tries
• The bench contributed 20 points
• Botich was the lone player to reach double digits, amassing 13
• Ferry posted seven points while dishing seven assists
• Crayton scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds
• Benedictine held a 44-38 edge on the glass
