Harvey's Layup Lifts #7 Men's Hoops

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - A layup from Tahron Harvey with two seconds remaining pushed the seventh-ranked Benedictine University men's basketball team to 10-0 on the season with a 75-73 road win at North Central College on Tuesday night.

THE DETAILS
•
North Central stormed out of the gates, scoring the first four points of the game and opening a 12-2 lead less than five minutes into the contest
• The first half advantage would swell to 13 at 19-6 with 13:14 to play
• Benedictine was able to slice the deficit down to eight points at 31-23 following a pair of free throws from Adam Reynolds with 2:23 remaining in the half, but North Central quickly scored five consecutive to again move ahead by 13 points and led 36-26 at the half
• Benedictine opened the second half by scoring the first seven points, quickly pulling within 36-33 following a three-point play from Michael Blaszczyk
• Following a three-point play from North Central, Luke Johnson drained a three-pointer to pull Benedictine within 39-38 at the 16:14 mark
• North Central was again able to extend the lead, moving ahead by eight points on two occasions
• Trailing by seven at 58-51 with 9:17 left, Benedictine struck for eight straight points, taking the lead for the first time on a three-pointer from Blaszczyk with 7:32 left
• Harvey evened the game with 4:55 to go on a layup and Blaszczyk knocked down another three with 4:14 to go, putting Benedictine ahead 68-66
• John Dodson made the score 70-66 with 3:24 remaining following a jumper
• North Central rallied to tie the game on a layup with :31 left, but following a pair of timeouts, Harvey backed down collapsing defenders to score the game-winner
• The 10-game winning streak matches the total from the 2008-09 season as the longest in recent history

"I did not think we played our best game overall but we found a way to win," head coach Keith Bunkenburg said. "I give a lot of credit to North Central for the way they took it to us early. I am proud of the fight in our team to come from behind. I love how we handled the adversity. We beat a very good team tonight."

• Tim Reamer contributed 15 quality points off the bench

• Benedictine rebounded from shooting 33.3 percent in the first half to shot 50 percent in the second to finish 42.6 percent
• The contest featured two ties and three lead changes along with 61 combined free throws
