SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Lakeland College connected on a layup at the buzzer to upend the Benedictine University women's basketball team 63-61 on Saturday night.
Benedictine led for a bulk of the first half prior to overcoming a 12-point deficit in the second half to tie the contest in the waning moments.
Nicole Botich handed Benedictine a 10-3 lead with 13:52 left in the first half following a layup as part of a 6-0 run. The first half advantage held until just under seven minutes were left in the half. Lakeland led by three at the break after
DeKayla Crayton scored with three seconds remaining.
Lakeland led by 12 at 43-31 with 11 minutes to play. Benedictine slowly chipped away, finally tying the score with 40 second remaining. Crayton, who put in a career day off the bench, evened the score at 61-61 with a layup. Following a turnover, the 21st of the game, Lakeland tallied the gamer-winner.
Benedictine held a 41-23 edge on the glass and scored 40 points in the paint. Crayton tallied 16 points, a career best. Crayton also added 11 rebounds.
Meghan Novak tallied 15 points while Botich also logged a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Benedictine (15-9, 15-4 NACC) will conclude the regular season on Tuesday night at Rockford in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
