The Benedictine University men's volleyball team recorded 16 team blocks in a 3-1 win over Loras College on Wednesday night in the Dan and Ada Rice Center.
Benedictine (6-11, 3-6 MCVL) trailed early in the first set but rallied back on a
Jake Moran kill to tie it at 13. An
Erik Kerber ace gave BenU the lead and the Eagles never looked back, forcing Loras (3-14, 1-7 MCVL) to make three straight unforced errors to end the set 25-22.
A
Dan Gibadlo kill put BenU up 5-2 in the second set, giving them momentum.
Eric Tarnow tallied six kills in the set and secured the BenU 25-19 win with an ace. Despite taking an early third set lead, Loras rallied and forced several timely Benedictine errors to take a 21-18 lead. The Duhawks won four the of the next seven points to take the 25-19 win.
In the fourth set, LC took a 3-1 lead before the Eagles went on an 11-1 run to lead 12-4. The momentum was all BenU as they only allowed LC to tally 10 total points.
Tarnow led all players with 16 kills and had four block assists while
Charles Morrell was right behind him with 14 kills and just three errors for a .407 attack percentage on the night.
Markus Riemer led the defense with 12 digs and had 38 assists.
Zach Loeding tallied six block assists and two solo blocks to contribute to BenU's 16 team blocks.
Men's volleyball is back in action on Sunday, March 22 when they host #3 SUNY New Paltz at 2:00 p.m. in the Rice Center.
