SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Benedictine University women's lacrosse team put together a late flurry, but fell just short of Oklahoma Baptist University in the finale of a visit south.
Trailing 2-0, Benedictine scored on a free position shot with 19:23 left in the first half.
Becca Gullett opened a frantic finish to the first half by bringing the Eagles within 3-2 at the 6:30 mark. Following a score from the hosts,
Samantha Link pulled Benedictine to within a single goal again at 4-3 with 5:40 left in the half. The hosts led 6-3 at the break, adding two late finders.
Benedictine opened the second half by scoring three times to pull even. All three goals came in the opening three minutes.
Jasmine Moreno netted the equalizer with 27:19 left on a feed from Gullett. Link tied the game again on a helper from
Jackie Andrews with 17:12 to play. Oklahoma Baptist scored three in a row to open a 10-7 lead before two late goals accounted for the final.
The Eagles won 13 draw controls and recorded 22 shots with 24 groundballs.
Hannah Smith stopped 12 shots in goal. Gullett scored four times with Link adding three and Moreno two. Link won six draw controls. Gullett scooped nine groundballs to go with three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Benedictine (0-6) returns to action on the road Sunday afternoon at Beloit.
