MEQUON, Wis. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team extended a school record win streak to six games by rallying past Concordia Wisconsin 8-7.
Concordia Wisconsin scored the first three goals of the contest before
Corbin Gett put Benedictine on the board. Gett scored on a feed from
Tony DePinto with 6:55 to play in the first. The hosts struck for three consecutive goals to extend the lead to 6-1 early in the second. The teams traded goals before the Benedictine defense clamped down. Trailing 7-2,
David Blanco opened a stretch of six consecutive goals by poking home a feed from Gett. Benedictine fought within 7-4 at the half.
The Eagles outscored Concordia Wisconsin 4-0 in the second half to streak to the victory.
Eric Orndorf netted three straight goals to even the game. Orndorf's final tally came with 11:55 left in the game.
Dominic DePinto scored the game winner for Benedictine with just over a minute remaining, dropping in a feed from Gett with just 1:08 to play. Concordia Wisconsin mounted three shots in the closing moments of the game, but
Jeremy Voyda made consecutive saves to preserve the win.
Concordia Wisconsin was picked to finish ahead of Benedictine in the preseason Midwest Lacrosse Conference poll. The win marked the first over the Falcons in program history. Benedictine scored the win despite being outshot 40-21. Voyda stopped 12 shots in goal. Orndorf scored three times while Gett added a goal and four assists.
Steven Sladek caused three turnovers and collected three groundballs.
Benedictine (8-2, 3-0) faces Beloit at home on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
