The Benedictine University men's track and field team competed in the Don Church Invitational at Wheaton College on Saturday. BenU placed sixth in the event.
Benedictine's throwers led the way, with
Joe DeMaegd,
Eric Kenebrew, and
Gerald Valenzuela all having strong meets. DeMaegd took the title in the hammer event (50.35m) while placing fourth in the discus (44.79m) and tenth in the shot put (13.10m). Kenebrew placed second in the shot put (14.86m), fourth in the hammer (47.45m), and 11th in the discus (38.59m). Also, Valenzuela placed tenth in the discus (39.00m) and 11th in the shot put (12.70m).
Also winning an event was
Billy Sipek. The senior placed first in the shot put at 2.02m, adding to his decorated collegiate career.
On the track,
Joe Chavez continued his strong freshman season with a seventh place finish in the 1500m (4:08.42) and an eighth place finish in the 800m (2:00.36). Another standout freshman,
Zach Aloff, placed fifth in the 110m hurdles at 16.35s.
Benedictine is back in action on Friday at the Benedictine University Twilight Invite. The event begins at 3:00 p.m.
