LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's lacrosse team suffered a 16-8 loss at the hands of third-seeded Concordia Wisconsin in the NACC Semifinals on Wednesday night.
Benedictine, the second seed, set the tone early.
Eric Orndorf scored the first goal with 10:51 to play in the first quarter on a feed from
Corbin Gett. After Concordia Wisconsin was able to tie the game, the Eagles tallied three straight goals to move ahead 4-1.
David Blanco scored unassisted to ignite the stretch with 7:14 remaining in the first. Benedictine led 5-3 after the first quarter of play.
The visitors were able to control much of the remainder of the contest behind strong play in goal. Concordia Wisconsin scored the first two goals of the second quarter to even the game. Benedictine led 6-5 and 7-6 before Concordia Wisconsin scored eight straight goals to gain control. Concordia Wisconsin led 9-7 at the half. After scoring with 7:57 to go in the first half, Benedictine did not score again until the 8:57 mark of the fourth.
Benedictine held a 35-31 advantage in shots but Concordia Wisconsin made 15 saves and held a 43-34 edge in groundballs. Benedictine scored just once in a man-up situation despite having eight opportunities. Gett scored three times and added two assists.
Tony DePinto added a pair of finders.
Jack Collins made eight saves in goal.
Benedictine qualified for the conference tournament for the first time in program history and finished the year with a record of 11-5, setting a new school record.
