The Benedictine University men's track and field team competed in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Outdoor Championships on Saturday, placing third in the event.
BenU's throwers dominated the weekend's events. The Eagles swept the top of the leaderboard in the shot put as
Eric Kenebrew (15.25m),
Gerald Valenzuela (14.56m), and
Joe DeMaegd (14.49m) placed 1-2-3. BenU was close to doing so in the discus as well, as Kenebrew (47.00m), DeMaegd (43.47m), and Valenzuela (39.88m) finished 1-2-4. The Eagles were also strong in the hammer (DeMaegd first, Kenebrew second, Valenzuela fifth, and Williams Brown seventh) and Javelin (DeMaegd second,
Ryley Martin third, and
Mitchell Tuthill sixth). Martin's performance carried over to the decathlon, where he placed first with a score of 5483. For his strong performance, DeMaged was named Field Athlete of the Meet.
The Eagles were also strong in the jumps.
Billy Sipek placed second in the high jump at 2.02m, while
Omar Lopez placed fourth in the triple jump (12.68m) and seventh in the long jump (6.36m).
On the track,
Chris Dziagwa won the 800m at 1:58.40. In the hurdle events,
Marcus Griffith placed fourth in the 110m (15.10s) and
Zach Aloff placed third in the 57.95s.
Track and Field competes next in the Dr. Keeler Invite on Thursday and Friday at North Central College. Events begin at 11:00 a.m. on both days.
