Men's Soccer Falls on Late Breakaway

LISLE, Ill. – The Benedictine University men's soccer team continued a difficult non-conference schedule by dropping a 3-2 decision to perennial power Wheaton College on the road by virtue of a late goal.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine played virtually even with a team that was ranked #2 nationally to begin the year
• Erik Stammer tied the game in the 84th minute on a loose ball
• Wheaton instantly responded, striking on a breakaway following the kick-off for the game-winner
• Stammer had a late attempt to tie the score but was denied
• Benedictine has now faced four programs who at some point this season have received national recognition
• All five losses this year have come by a single goal

STAT LEADERS
• Stammer scored both goals for Benedictine
• Nick Kapetanos assisted on both tallies
• Steve Mack played the entire game in goal and made seven saves, including five in the second half
• Wheaton held a 23-13 advantage in shots

Benedictine (3-5) opens conference play on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. against Edgewood, the team that they downed last year in the conference tournament for the program's first ever tournament victory
