Eagles Swept by Redhawks and Duhawks

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University men's volleyball team hosted Benedictine University at Mesa and Loras College on Sunday afternoon. Despite taking a 2-0 lead over BenU at Mesa, the Redhawks defeated the Eagles 3-2. Benedictine would then fall to Loras in straight sets.

THE DETAILS
• After a back and forth start to the first set, a Kyle VanStedum block gave BenU a 20-19 lead and never looked back, securing the win off the kill of Sterling Glover. Glover tallied six kills in the set while Ian Thompson had six digs
• The Eagles hit .417 in the second set with 19 kills en route to a 25-15 win
• Benedictine at Mesa took an early lead, 16-12. The Eagles could not retaliate, falling 25-20
• Down 11-6, the Eagles went on a 5-2 run and came within two but the Mesa offense was too much, tallying 15 kills for a 25-17 win
• In the fifth set, Mesa took a 5-1 lead and never looked back, winning 15-8

STAT LEADERS
• Mesa out-hit the Eagles 64-51 and tallied 71 digs compared to the Eagles 55
• Jake Moran led the Eagles with 13 kills while Glover tallied 11
• Jonathan Valentini recorded 17 digs

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine trailed early in the first set, allowing Loras to tally 11 kills and hit .317 in the set for a 25-15 win
• The Eagles made a late rally in the second set to try and overcome a 20-17 deficit but the Duhawks offense prevailed, winning 25-22
• Benedictine recorded their first lead of the match in the third set, taking a 13-12 lead on a Glover kill. With the set tied at 20, two LC kills and two BenU errors gave Loras match point and the Eagles couldn't respond, falling 25-22

STAT LEADERS
• Glover led the team with 12 kills and a .391 attack percentage with 11 digs while VanStedum recorded eight kills and three block assists
• John Mathews had 33 assists and five digs and Valentini tallied seven digs
• Despite tallying 38 kills compared to LC's 34, the Eagles tallied 24 attack errors
• Benedictine had a season low three team blocks while Loras recorded 13.5
