#3 Men's Hoops Shoots Down Rockford

LISLE, Ill. - The third-ranked Benedictine University men's basketball team eclipsed the win total of the 2014-15 team that shared the conference title by shooting over 56 percent in a home victory over Rockford University.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine sputtered again at the start as Rockford tallied the first five points of the game
• Rockford led for nearly the first 12 minutes of the contest but never by more than four
• Luke Johnson, who battled foul trouble, scored five consecutive points to hand Benedictine the lead for the first time at 23-22 with 8:08 remaining in the first half
• Tim Reamer opened a 7-0 run with a layup at the 6:57 mark and Tahron Harvey finished the spurt, giving Benedictine a 35-26 edge with 4:39 to go
• Benedictine held a 43-38 advantage at halftime
• Rockford pulled within three at 44-41, but Benedictine opened a double-figure lead at 52-42 on a John Dodson jumper with 15:06 remaining
• Adam Reynolds opened another 7-0 spurt with a layup at the 13:35 mark and a three from Matt Chaltin extended the edge to 61-45 with 12:40 left
• Rockford worked to within 12, but another 7-0 stretch again pushed the lead to 19 points
• The win officially clinched a spot in the NACC Tournament along with a first round bye, meaning Benedictine is guaranteed one home contest on February 26

"The crowd was great," head coach Keith Bunkenburg said. "Thanks for all of the student support. We are attempting to represent Benedictine and make everyone proud to be an Eagle. I thought Rockford played and executed wel.We were able to hang in and wear them down in the second half to collect a great win through a team effort."

STAT LEADERS

Six players scored in double figures including all five starters
• Dodson and Reynolds each netted 18 points with Reamer tallying 13 off the bench
• Johnson and Michael Blaszczyk posted 11 points apiece while Harvey also reached double digits with 10
• Johnson, Reynold, and Reamer all finished with nine rebounds, just one short of a double-double
• Benedictine, who leads the nation in assists, added 24 on the 38 field goals
• The hosts, who also rank second nationally in rebound margin, held a 41-29 advantage on the glass
• Benedictine shot 56.7 percent from the field for the game, Benedictine also ranks second in the nation in field goal percentage
• 52 of the points came in the paint with 24 on the fast break
• The bench scored 27 in the contest
