LISLE, IL - The Benedictine University men's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 1-1 draw against Dominican University.

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine created early opportunities in the matchup to determine the conference champion
• The contest featured the top two defenses in the conference
• Combined, both teams had allowed just nine goals in conference play entering the match
• Nick Kapetanos put Benedictine on the board in the 14th minute
• Kapetanos blasted home a free kick into the top right corner of the net for his 24th goal of the year
• The second half played very back-and-forth in the tension filled contest
• Dominican was able to tie the game in similar fashion, blasting home a free kick with just over 20 minutes left to tie the score
• Yair Ortega and
Erik Stammer put shots on target in the closing seconds but could not beat the keeper and break the tie
• Both teams put shots on goal in overtime but the defense held strong to prompt the tie
• The tie handed Dominican the conference title and top seed in the conference tournament

"Congrats to Dominican who is very deserving of the regular season championship," head coach
Attila Schmidt said. "Both teams really left it on the field tonight. It definitely stings knowing that we came so close to earning a share of the championship, but we have to quickly shift our focus to what we can hopefully accomplish in the upcoming conference tournament."
