Men's Soccer Season Ends in Double OT

CHICAGO, IL - The Benedictine University men's soccer team saw the best season in school history come to an end in double overtime with a third round loss to the eighth-ranked University of St. Thomas.

THE DETAILS
•
The game was played in frigid conditions with a sharp wind
• Antonio Marti-Polo made an early save just over two minutes into the contest
• Benedictine produced a string of three consecutive corner kicks 10 minutes into the contest
• Erik Stammer saw an opportunity to score miss wide left at the 21 minute mark
• Stammer broke away late in the back-and-forth half, firing an attempt from just inside the box that was saved
• Francisco Delgado collected the rebound and stroked it into the left corner of the net to give Benedictine the lead
• The marker was just the second of the season for Delgado
• Benedictine maintained the advantage through most of the match but could not extend the lead
• St. Thomas snuck a pass through the defense in the closing moments of regulation and tied the game with just over three minutes left
• Both teams made saves in overtime but no one was able to score, forcing a second session
• Marti-Polo made an athletic save in the first minute of the second overtime, but a follow was headed into an open net to end the season
