#2 Men's Hoops Rolls to Outright Title

LISLE, Ill. - The second-ranked Benedictine University men's basketball team stormed out to a 22-2 lead en route to a rout of Concordia University Chicago to claim the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championship outright.

THE DETAILS
•
Tahron Harvey drained a three-pointer on the opening possession of the game to hand Benedictine an early 3-0 lead
• Adam Reynolds followed with a layup at the 19:03 mark, making the score 5-0
• Following a basket from Concordia Chicago, Benedictine ripped off 17 straight points, opened on a three-pointer from Reynolds, to take a commanding 22-2 lead with 12:47 remaining in the first half
• The visitors pulled no closer than 14 points the rest of the game as Benedictine led by as many as 32 points in the first half on a pair of free throws from Michael Blaszczyk with 3:26 left, making the score 51-19
• Leading 54-30 at the half, Benedictine needed less than seven minutes to extend the lead to 39 points at 79-40 on a jumper from John Dodson with 13:07 to play
• Tim Reamer made a layup at the 9:12 mark with the bench cleared to push the advantage to 94-44
• The win matched the 1990-91 team for the single season school record with 23 victories

"Good win last night, it was great to get everyone in the game," head coach Keith Bunkenburg said. "We jumped on them early and never let down. Our bench did a great job to keep the energy up."

Blaszczyk led Benedictine with 19 points, surpassing the 1,000-point marker with a pair of free throws at the 18:46 mark of the second half
• Reamer scored 15 points off the bench, adding seven rebounds
• Brayden Olson netted a career high 12 in a reserve role while Dodson adding 10
• Luke Johnson finished a point shy of a double-double, scoring nine points with 11 rebounds and 10 assists
• Eight players scored eight points or more with every player on the roster seeing time on the floor
• Benedictine finished the game shooting 58.6 percent, blistering the nets at 63.6 percent in the second half
• The defense held Concordia Chicago to 32.3 percent shooting
• Benedictine held a 58-24 advantage on the glass, scoring 25 second-chance points and adding 62 points in the paint
• The 111 points marked a season high

Benedictine (23-0, 18-0 NACC) hosts Edgewood on Saturday afternoon in the final home regular season contest. The senior class will be honored before the game and Benedictine can establish a single season school record for wins with a victory.
