Softball Sweeps Home Opener

The Benedictine University softball team returned home from Florida and hosted North Park University in their home opener. The Eagles defeated the Vikings 11-0 in five innings in game one, followed by an 11-6 win in the night cap.

GAME 1
THE FINAL

Benedictine 11, North Park 0

THE DETAILS
• The Eagles tallied two runs in the first inning off of a Melissa Stoch two-run homerun, her third of the season
• In the second, an Angie Malsack double and Breanna Sobotka triple put the Eagles up 7-0
• Benedictine scored four more runs in the third off of four hits and two NPU errors. Holly Haberkorn had an RBI double while Courtney Grasz had an RBI single

THE STATS
• Stoch was 3-3 with two RBI while Malsack was 2-2 with a run scored
• Melissa Guzior picked up her sixth win of the year, allowing three hits with two strikeouts in five innings

THE FINAL

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine took a 10-0 lead heading into the fourth inning but allowed NPU to tally five runs off of four hits and two BenU errors
• Guzior made a relief appearance in the seventh to secure the 11-6 Benedictine win
• The Eagles tallied two runs in the first and the second that saw hits from Stoch, Sobotka and an RBI triple from Shannon Fritsche
• In the third, Stoch and Kailee Cable led off with doubles followed by a Malsack single. Fritsche would record another triple en route to a six-run inning

THE STATS
• Fritsche was 2-4 with three RBI and three runs scored
• Haberkorn was 2-3 behind the plate with a run and an RBI. On the mound she allowed one earned run and six hits with six strikeouts in five innings
• Stoch and Cable were 2-4 with one run scored and an RBI
