Softball Swept by Wheaton

The Benedictine University softball team moved to 10-6 on the season after being swept by Wheaton College on Thursday afternoon.

GAME ONE
THE FINAL
Benedictine 1, Wheaton 9 (5 innings)

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine only tallied two hits in the entire game while the Thunder collected nine runs off of six hits and two BenU errors
• Wheaton was up 8-0  before the Eagles tallied a run in the fourth off an Angie Malsack RBI single
• The Thunder tallied a run in the fifth to secure the 9-1 five-inning victory

THE STATS
• Melissa Guzior moved to 6-3 on the year, allowing four hits and two walks with three earned runs in 2.1 innings
• Megan Reidy also pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two hits and one earned run

THE FINAL
Benedictine 1, Wheaton 2

THE DETAILS
• Benedictine took the 1-0 lead in the first that saw Shannon Fritsche single through the left side followed by a Malsack sac bunt. After Fritsche stole third, Courtney Grasz drove in the Eagles lone run
• Both teams wouldn't score again until the fourth when Wheaton scored one run off of three hits to tie it up
• The Thunder took the lead in the sixth and held off the Eagles in the seventh

THE STATS
• Benedictine tallied five hits in the game while Grasz had one hit and one RBI
• Holly Haberkorn is now 4-3 on the year and allowed seven hits and two earned runs with two strikeouts in six innings

Benedictine softball opens up Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Concordia University-Chicago for a 12:00 pm doubleheader.
