Men's Volleyball Falls to #14 MSOE

LISLE, Ill. - For the second day in a row the Benedictine University men's volleyball team competed against a nationally ranked opponent, this time facing conference foe Milwaukee School of Engineering and falling in three sets to the Raiders. Before the match, the team honored Jon Mueller for Senior Day to recognize his hard work and dedication throughout the season.

THE DETAILS
• Markus Riemer started off the match with an ace but it quickly went downhill for the Eagles as they trailed by as many as eight points. The Raiders tallied 13 kills and hit .476 in the first set
• In the second set, both teams traded points early on but MSOE went on a 5-0 run that gave them the lead and they never looked back, winning 23-15
• Benedictine trailed almost the entire third set. A Kacper Mazurek ace put the Eagles within one and a Kyle VanStedum block gave BenU the first tie of the set. Another Mazurek kill gave the Eagles the 24-22 lead but MSOE never gave up, consistently tying the game back up. The Raiders ended up winning the match with two straight kills, 30-28.
• The match saw 16 ties and five lead changes, two in the final set
• MSOE is ranked 14th in the country and is one of two undefeated teams in the MCVL (along with #3 Carthage who defeated the Eagles on Saturday afternoon)

THE STATS
• Mazurek and Sterling Glover each tallied seven kills while Jon Mueller recorded six
• Markus Riemer had 25 assists and five blocks
• Ian Thompson also tallied five blocks
• Carthage out-hit the Eagles with 42 kills and just 11 errors for a .392 attack percentage while Benedictine had 29 kills, 22 digs and six blocks

UP NEXT
The men's volleyball team, now 12-7 overall and 6-2 in the MCVL, will travel to Michigan this weekend to take on Adrian College on Friday, March 11 at 6:00 p.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. contest against Olivet College on Saturday, March 12.
