Men's Volleyball Ends Season With Loss at Lakeland

The Benedictine University men's volleyball teams season came to a hault on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 loss at Lakeland College.

THE DETAILS
• Before the match, Benedictine was in a close race for a spot in the Midwest Collegiate Volleybal League Conference Tournament. The Eagles needed to win both Friday's match (which they did against Marian) and also win Saturday's match against Lakeland to secure a spot in the tournament
• In the first set, Benedictine took a 3-0 lead before Lakeland went on a 7-0 run to take the lead and never look back, winning 25-18
• The Muskies collected 13 kills in the second set to win 25-18
• The third set saw BenU down 3-0 before tying it at seven. The Eagles would go on a 3-0 run off the serve of Markus Riemer. Lakeland came within one but BenU had 16 kills to lead them to a 25-22 win
• After a back and forth start to the fourth set, BenU tied it at 11. Five ties later, Lakeland pulled ahead and clinched their spot in the MCVL Tournament with a 25-19 win
• In just their second season as a program, the Benedictine men's volleyball team ended the year with a 16-9 overall record and a 9-4 conference record. Only four teams make the MCVL Conference Tournament

THE STATS
• Sterling Glover tallied 12 kills while John Mathews and Jon Mueller each had nine kills
• Kyle VanStedum recorded six kills and two block assists
• Zach Loeding had three block assists and four kills
• Markus Riemer had 35 assists and nine digs while Ian Thompson led with 23 digs
