Baseball Swept as Busy Week Continues

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University baseball team continued a busy week by being swept at the hands of UW-Stevens Point in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

THE DETAILS
• The visitors combined for 21 runs and 31 hits in the doubleheader
• The first contest saw a lot of back and forth action
• UW-Stevens Point struck for four runs in the first inning before Benedictine responded with three in the bottom of the inning
• Dom DeMicco and Andrew Hotze each posted RBI singles in the frame
• Trailing 5-3, Benedictine scored three times in the fourth to take their only lead of the day
• DeMicco tripled home two to deep right, giving Benedictine the 6-5 advantage
• UW-Stevens Point connected on three homers in the game including a three-run blast in the sixth to open an 8-6 lead
• Benedictine was able to tie the score in the bottom of the inning with two runs on five hits
• Tanner Kiser knocked in a run with a groundout while Hotze stroked a two-out single
• The visitors scored a run in the seventh to take the lead and three in the ninth to pull away
• Erik Callaghan nailed a pinch-hit two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to account for the final
• UW-Stevens Point jumped ahead early in the second game, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings and building a 9-0 lead before a single run in the eighth
• Oscar Castro knocked home the lone run with a two-out single

DeMicco and Hotze each picked up three hits in the opener as Benedictine laced 15
• Ivan Guzman started and left with the lead following five innings but Jacob Trumpis suffered the defeat
• Sam Kerr tallied three of the seven hits in the second contest
• 21 players appeared in the second game including six pitchers
