Softball Rallies to Defeat CUC

Down 3-1 after four innings, the #3 Benedictine softball team rallied in the sixth to score two runs en route to a 4-3 win over #6 Concordia University-Chicago in the 2016 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament.

THE SCORING DETAILS
• Concordia-Chicago took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first after a two-run homerun
• Benedictine cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the frame on a Courtney Grasz sac fly, scoring Shannon Fritsche who singled earlier in the inning
• Concordia recorded another homerun in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead
• After a scoreless fifth inning, the Eagles tallied two unearned runs to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth with Breanna Sobotka and Kelli Holstine scoring
• Holly Haberkorn shut down the CUC offense in the top of the seventh
• With two outs in the seventh inning, Jenna Boyajian drove in Kailee Cable with a single down the left field line for the 4-3 win
 
THE STATS
• Stoch was 3-4
• Boyajian was 2-4 with the game-winning RBI
• Holstine, Fritsche and Cable each tallied a hit
• On the mound, Haberkorn allowed four hits and four strikeouts
 
UP NEXT
With one loss in the tournament, #3 Benedictine will take on the loser of #1 Aurora and #2 Concordia-Wisconsin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at Alverno Field.
