Women's Hoops Topples Concordia Wisconsin

MEQUON, WI - The Benedictine University women's basketball team swept the season series from Concordia University Wisconsin by winning on the road Saturday afternoon.

THE DETAILS
•
The contest had a slow tempo from the outset as the first points didn't come until over two minutes into the game
• Concordia Wisconsin led 6-1 at the halfway point of the opening quarter
• Trailing 12-9 after one, Benedictine tied the game at 14-14 on a three-pointer from Venita Parsons with 8:41 left in the half
• The hosts responded, opening a nine-point advantage at 25-16 with just 3:57 left in the second quarter
• Benedictine was able to close the deficit at the half, ending on a 5-0 run with a layup from Alena Moro and a three-point play from Georgia Alexakos to trail 27-23
• Parsons and D'Asia Williams connected on back-to-back three-pointers to put Benedictine in front 29-28 early in the third
• The remainder of the third was close before a three from Payton Sims just before the buzzer tied the game
• The final quarter saw several lead changes in a frame that saw neither team lead by more than four
• Trailing 57-54 with 1:53 remaining, Benedictine scored six straight to reverse the trend and tally the win
• Williams gave Benedictine the lead for good with 39 seconds to go on a layup
• The contest featured seven ties and 12 lead changes with neither team leading by double digits
• Benedictine led for just over seven minutes in the game

"A never give up win today," said head coach Charlie Averkamp. "Venita (Parsons) was outstanding throughout the game. We did a great job of owning the boards. Limiting a team like Concordia Wisconsin to just two offensive boards was huge. A great team victory.
