Volleyball Falls to Edgewood in Five Sets

 The Benedictine University women's volleyball team cruised to a 2-0 lead over Edgewood College on Saturday afternoon in the Rice Center, but Edgewood would rally back to win the next three sets for the 3-2 come from behind victory.

• In the first set, the Benedictine offense caught fire and a Claudia Schmidt kill gave the Eagles a 12-7 lead
• Kristina Billie scored three straight for BenU to go up 18-15
• Chelsi Blair forced another BenU rally, tallying four straight en route to a 25-21 win
• In the second set, Benedictine tallied 11 kills and a .450 hitting percentage
• The Eagles took a 9-0 lead to start the set, with Kendall Holmes recording two aces
• Edgewood could never recover, falling 25-14
• Both teams battled in the third set but Benedictine managed to lead for most of the first half
• Edgewood tied it at 20 and several BenU errors put EC up 23-21
• The Eagles managed to tie it at 23 but back-to-back EC kills gave them the 25-23 win
• A back and forth start to the fourth set saw Edgewood take a 19-14 lead
• Edgewood tallied 14 kills in the set and hit .323 for the 25-18 win, forcing a fifth set
• Benedictine trailed early in the fifth set but BenU went on a 4-0 run to take a 9-8 lead after a Blair ace
• That would be the Eagles final lead of the set as Edgewood would tally seven kills for the 15-12 win
• As a team, Benedictine recorded 41 kills, 15 aces, 70 digs and nine blocks.
